Protest results in delay to Gedling Tip closure
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Gedling Julia Bateman has learnt that the Conservative run County Council will delay the closure of the Gedling 'tip' (the Household Waste Recycling Centre) until after the General Election. This delay follows protests by residents, a petition organised by the local Liberal Democrats, pickets of the site, and many individual letters and emails.
Urging her council colleagues to continue the campaign to keep the tip open Julia Bateman said: " The original decision to close the tip was plain wrong. It is a well used local facility and if it is closed it will lead to increased levels of fly tipping."
Demanding clear answers from the County Council on their plans for this site Julia Bateman said "a decision to defer the closure until after the General Election is likely to be seen as cynical by the electorate who will be wondering if it is because the Conservative candidate in Gedling is a senior County Councillor, i.e. the very people who made the decision to close the tip!".
