Nominations close for Phoenix Ward by-election

Local campaigner and former Councillor Andrew Ellwood has been nominated to be the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Gedling Borough Council by-election on the 15th of September.

Despite a strong local record, Andrew lost by four votes to a Labour candidate in the Gedling Borough Council elections in May. The Labour Councillor resigned after only a few months to take a teaching job in Mexico. The by-election is expected to be a close contest between Andrew and Labour. In the May Elections the Conservatives failed to stand any candidates and finished a poor third in the previous Borough elections in the ward.

If you are not sure if you are on the Electoral register or recently moved into the area, you have until to midnight on 31 August to register. If you are away on holiday on 15 September or for any other reason you cannot get to the polling station to vote, you can still vote by post or proxy at the election. If you would like a postal vote you must get your application to Gedling Borough Council before 5pm on 31 August. You can apply for a proxy vote until 5pm on 7 September.

You can contact Andrew by email on andrewmellwood@yahoo. co.uk or phone on 0115 859 9168
