Liberal Democrat Manifesto for Nottinghamshire County Council
Nottinghamshire's Liberal Democrats realise that times are tough and money is scarce. Because of this it is important now more than ever to make sure that the County Council spend your money carefully and for the benefit of all the citizens of Nottinghamshire. As Liberal Democrats we are committed to treating everyone with fairness and giving all equality of opportunity. We are also committed to making Nottinghamshire a Green county, not just in the County flag but in how we look after the environment.
Here are our commitments to you if we form the next Administration.
- We are committed to maintaining the freeze on the Council Tax for at least the first year of any administration in Nottinghamshire in which the Liberal Democrats play a part.
- There will be no cuts in Library Services or Sure Start provision under a Liberal Democrat Administration, where possible we will look to improve both of these vital services.
- We will invest an additional £1million in repairing and renovating our road infrastructure and filling pot-holes.
- Councillors' Allowances will be frozen for the next 4 years.
- Within 4 months of taking office we will start detailed reviews into local residents parking schemes and will work with bus and train companies to make sure that our buses and trains work together to give a better public transport service.
- We are committed to stopping any further sales of County Care Homes.
- We believe that decisions should be taken as locally as possible. Because of this we will devolve as many decisions as we can to the local communities.
- We will reduce the spending on Council PR and internal management and invest any savings in services for young people (e.g. Youth Centres and Performing Arts).
- We pledge to bring more openness into the County Council. Any new contracts signed by the Council under Lib Dems will be public documents; we will not allow any more hiding costs & conditions behind "Commercial Confidentiality".
- The County's Trading Standards Service needs to be improved so it can tackle problems like sale of alcohol to underage children.
- We will help people who need care to make the choices that suit them through the Personal Allowance scheme.
- We pledge to protect the County's wonderful open spaces and will not sell off any of the parks under County Council control.
- We will invest in the local environment by dealing with graffiti, fly tipping, fly posting and improving the grass cutting.
- By working with the District & Borough Councils around the County and building on existing partnerships, we aim to improve the County's recycling record and through this stop the need for new landfill sites or incinerators.
Even if we are not in power after the election our Councillors will work to get as much of these commitments fulfilled as possible. At all times you can rely on Liberal Democrat County Councillors to work hard for you, your community and your County.
