17 Sep 2011

Gedling Liberal Democrats are celebrating a big win in a Gedling Borough Council by-election held on Thursday September 15th. Popular local campaigner Andrew Ellwood regained a seat for the Liberal Democrats from Labour in Phoenix Ward. The Labour Party had pulled out all the stops to try and hold onto the seat. Andrew had previously represented the ward for four years before narrowly losing to a Labour candidate who resigned after 3 months in office.

The votes cast in the by-election were as follows:

Andrew Ellwood (Liberal Democrat Focus Team) 566 votes

Labour 445 votes

Conservative 98 votes

UKIP 42 votes

Councillor Andrew Ellwood stated "I would like to thank those people who voted for me in the by-election on September 15th. I look forward to working with local residents to improve our area and pressing the Borough and County Councils to do so. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Phoenix Ward as Councillor and will try to do the best for all residents which ever way they voted."
