Changes in Netherfield and Colwick

May 25, 2008 9:15 PM
By Cllr Tony Gillam

The Borough has received a planning application for the old Hollywood Video Store on Victoria Road to become a ladies fitness centre. The application says that the centre will be open 7 days a week with space for up to 18 people at a time. Latest: permission granted.

The owners of Bianco, the restaurant on Victoria Road, have applied for permission to have tables and chairs outside the front of the restaurant. Permission granted.

Anagas House

This building is on Station Road just beyond the Carlton Station level crossing. Planning permission was granted some time ago to demolish the building and put up a block of flats. Some of the land cannot be built on because of an underground sewer. The Borough has only partly demolished the old toilets - for which they should be ashamed!

We believe this building has recently been bought and the work may go ahead.

Refurbishment of Jackie Bells Playing Field:

Gedling Borough Council money for the refurbishment of Jackie Bells Playing Field is now available. However, we do not envisage work on the ground being undertaken until autumn 2008 at the earliest - there may be some element of co-ordinating efforts with Nottinghamshire County Council, who may be using their money to redesign the entrance to the Play Area.

As the consultation process is not yet complete we can't be specific in how the money will be spent, although I imagine it will go partly towards installing new play equipment for under 5s, refurbishing some of the present equipment, and providing new play equipment for over 8's, along with safety surfacing; part of it will be used to redesign the space so it functions better as a community space as well as a play area; and part of it will be used to update/replace some of the youth facilities presently on Jackie Bells. We can't be more specific until the consultation process is complete

Consultation has focused mainly on young people, due to the strategic importance of Jackie Bells as a play space in Netherfield. Groups included in the consultation include Year 2 to Year 6 children from Netherfield Primary School, users of the Loco youth club, young people engaged with through the detached youth service team and 2 community artists, and parents from the parent toddler group at St Georges Centre. Progress on the consultation has been fed back through the ABI youth sub group and a presentation was planned for late April.
